About

Ink & Spindle is a boutique screen-printing studio run by three Melbourne textile designers – Lara Cameron, Bianca van Meeuwen and Tegan Rose.

We were brought together by a common passion for screen printed textiles and sustainable alternatives to the mass produced textiles that dominate the marketplace.

We specialise in high quality textile printing for designers and independent labels. You can find more specific information on our fabric printing services here.

If you would like to discuss a potential job - please don’t hesitate to get in touch! We pride ourselves on working closely with customers to ensure their designs are suitable for our processes and that the end result is what they expect.

At Ink & Spindle we also aim to minimise our impact on the environment, read more about our sustainable practices here.

Lara Cameron

I began my design career as a web & graphic designer after studying Multimedia at Swinburne University. I worked for myself for about 4 years before deciding that I wanted to branch out creatively, and perhaps pursue something more tactile.

I started my blog as a place to experiment with different creative styles and media, and one of the things I experimented with was pattern repeat. I found I really enjoyed the mix of creative and technical skills involved in the process, and I also received a lot of positive feedback on my designs, so I decided to do something more with them!

Hand screen printed textiles was the most appealing application for my designs - it’s such a versatile medium, and I love the idea that I’m making something that other creative people can turn into amazing things.

Post secondary school, I spent two years studying my Diploma of Visual Art (painting) at TAFE in Warrnambool, under the fantastic Glenn Morgan, and then made the long awaited move to Melbourne where I gained my Bachelor of Fine Arts (painting) at RMIT. After a hellish final year and a half there, I needed a break from the (rather pretentious) “art world” and so completed a Postgraduate Diploma of Education and began a career as a secondary college Art, Animation and Textiles teacher.

No joke, teaching is the best (and arguably the most important) job in the world, but it also has some really horrible, non-teaching aspects, so after two years of complete emotional exhaustion and no social life, I made the very difficult decision to leave the profession and begin this very exciting journey with Bee and Lara.

It's such a relief to be able to 'make' again, and this medium is fantastic because it allows our work to be accessable to so many people.

Bianca van Meeuwen

During my final year at university, studying International Business and Management, I had the amazing opportunity to complete my work experience and thesis in Melbourne, Australia. I fell in love with the city immediately, and after my graduation I returned to start a career as a marketing and administration coordinator.

It was during my time working in an office that I was looking for a creative outlet. I have always had an interest in graphic design and started experimenting with pattern and surface design. After reading an article, in the local paper, about Lara Cameron’s hand printed textiles, I took the plunge and got some of my patterns printed on fabric.

Hollabee has come a long way since that first print run, especially now we print our fabrics in-house. Every step of this creative journey is one to remember and I’m very thrilled to see that other people enjoy my fabrics and turn them into
beautiful handmade pieces.
